In 2017, each fire service zone in the city did a massive citywide inspection of over 3500 markets, schools, hospitals, banks, chemical warehouses and hotels to find that an overwhelming number of them do not meet even the basic criteria of fire safety. To date, this is the most extensive database of fire safety violations. This map shows approximately 2600 risky buildings as identified by the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence. We will be continuing to update the map as information on more risky buildings become available. Compiling all of this information together gives a clear picture of just how far Dhaka city needs to go to protect its residents from fire-incidents. Read more
